The tools are just that. Tools. No need to get religious about them, though many do.
Editing is storytelling. A beginning, a middle, and an end, with the non-useful parts snipped out. There are a lot of operators out there who can sling effects and filters with the fastest of them, though the number of genuine editors is much smaller.

Have not tried OnLocation w/HDMI. I have used longer 1394 cables on occasion, but they have been very thick, heavy ones. They did seem to work, though.

If the primary glitches or freezes, we just switch to the other source, and nobody’s evening is ruined. You might consider supplying a backup as a video DVD.
I have seen this happen at a very large event with no backup. Results? One director near-meltdown and very, very annoyed clients.
Laptops are not DDR’s, and should not be treated as such. Use the right tool for the job.

Can you use a 1394 cable to OnLocation? It’s designed as a capture application, will do HDV, and has built-in real-time test instrumentation.

I think the logic holds here as well.
They both work. Use what you feel most at home with and you’ll be fine.

It’s the luminance (Y) signal. It works just fine.

With Fox, they tend to consistently identify Republican elected officials in legal/ethical trouble as Democrats. It’s consistent enough that I am no longer inclined to give them any benefit of the doubt. It’s either policy from somewhere inside, or at best utterly lax journalistic rigor.
Does the opposite happen? Never, as far as I’ve heard.

Things seem to be acting “normal” again, on both machines. This is without any cookie manipulation.

I will try to replicate the problem on my laptop, to determine if it is machine-specific.
