You might do better with the 8 or 16-point mattes, though they’ll be more work.
And the matte points are keyframeable.
Or are you asking something else?

Does it do the same thing with different VHS tapes, or is it one specific tape only?
Does the camera itself shoot and output proper video from its own imager?
(Disclosure – I’m not an FCP user, so I can’t speak to any settings there or what effect they may be having.)

I would not trust the monitor on the PD-170 without verifying its accuracy. If you shoot something on it is the video level proper?
Otherwise, it sounds like it might be a double-termination issue. What does your signal chain look like?

Just about everyone has a DVD player. Not everyone has Blu-ray.

Adobe makes a free DNG converter. DNG is their approach to preserving camera RAW data and making it accessible to Photoshop if a newer RAW mode is developed by a camera manufacturer – which seems to happen regularly.

Really, what you would be well off looking into is a china ball for the card table, and bunches of small instruments you can hide aroud the room for different angles. That way you are lighting the game table well, and getting a(n incomplete) falloff out into the rest of the room.

I have not used the HD version, though I do call and switch a fair amount of stuff on TriCasters.
They work. Well, and repeatedly, they work.
You can spend more and get less.
