no – they’ve been getting absolute hell from photographers, just in different places. Their Facebook page is a war site when you dig in – I threw a tomato at them there too. this whole post is directed at photographers who are losing the block with adobe:

    https://www.dpreview.com/news/2013/05/08/Adobe-photoshop-cc

    quote –

Were you expecting such a negative response from the photographic community?

We expected a higher degree of this type of reaction from the hobbyist photographic community because currently there’s not a lot of photography-specific value in our subscription products. That’s why we’ve taken the unusual steps of Tom Hogarty’s appearance on The Grid [a Scott Kelby webisode] showing potential Lightroom CC features and the Photoshop Sneak Peek where we showed new features like Camera Shake reduction.

also, intriguingly, some of them over at adobe may be getting sweaty under the collar –
there’s an odd quote at the end of the interview.

As far as the future of CS applications, in his Adobe MAX keynote, David Wadhwani said, ‘We have no plans’ to continue perpetual licenses. We are not ruling that out in the future.

    thats an escape hatch statement.

Some people in adobe have to be fairly unhappy at a prime release of CS being swamped by masses of community backlash and FUD. At the end of the day, this all feels largely the work of Shantanu Narayen. that guy would run that entire company into the ground to get an extra fifty bucks out of it for the fund managers holding the shares. I don’t think he sees a customer base at all.

I think he just sees wallets, credit cards and bank accounts that he needs to get into on a regular basis.

I bet it’s the same as what you’ll pay for the whole suite.

Nope. But put more simply – I’m not going to start executing and building assets in their little renters cottage. that is a hostage to fortune. They can get stuffed.

I own Production Premium CS 6. The two things I care about outside of Premiere are PS and AE.

I’m going to fork over rental cash for premiere pro. first year will cost me 100 quid. about 140 quid a year after that.

Have you actually seen the changes to PS? they introduced some stupid gimmicky magic de-blur thing that I care absolutely nothing about. PS hasn’t changed significantly in eons. 64 bit or whatever, but nine out of ten times I’m dealing with a 2000 odd pixel wide plate. It’s not taxing.

I’ll miss the crazy urge to throw 3D objects around in a AE scene, but I’ll get over it. AE CS6 is an extremely mature, powerful product.

Adobe is not getting six hundred quid a year off me for a bin bag of stupid apps that have nothing to do with my livelihood, some crazy colour picker creative community hot air PR bollocks, and yet another company offering me a digital locker the size of a good USB stick. You know the only thing better than adobe’s digital locker? A good USB stick.

I’m doing premiere rental for a year anyway and sitting on CS6. I own it. – again – adobe can take a running jump with CC. They can seriously get stuffed.

all the graphics at the various live pres studio setup locations for the London Olympics were powered by pixelmator.

It was the image editor install, along with FCP for editing. I picked it up in 5 minutes, and executed a ton of pres delivery graphics, image type combos, quiz slides etc over the course of the two weeks.

It’s very nice software – and it costs 15 dollars. It’s not photoshop, but its not a million miles away either, nice layers system, nice layer masks, nice levels, very fast to launch, very light to run.

There is nothing wrong at all with pixelmator.

And you get to own it. Unlike the Olive Oil salesmen stalking around, selling you back your own tools on hire, on the never never. Adobe is going weird I say.

Mmm. I’ll live without AECS next – I’m still praying that premiere makes it through the FUBAR. I want that as my next editing system, as in the one that everyone else broadly agrees should be the general use case replacement for FCP. Some mess they’ve made here tho – the vitriol on some of the sites, hell even their twitter stream… I’m over half an editor at this stage. I actually cut a half hour golf documentary just before christmas like.
    That took me by surprise.

Everything else can get stuffed. I just want to get my hands on PPro7. Bar that I’ll ride CS 6 out for a couple of years.

some of the stuff there makes here polite, this one has a ring to it:

“For someone starting out, it’s a slamming deal, especially if you use all the tools. But maybe they don’t understand just yet the ebb and flow of professional life. Money comes in, but sometimes it doesn’t, and the bank wants the mortgage payment regardless. I could buy a Suite when times were flush, and coast for a while when times were a little lean and still work. With a rental model, an extended period of tight cash might mean I would have to make the choice between putting food on the table and working. Then, suddenly I’m without the tools of my livelihood. With a perpetual license, we all had the means of production, and could do with it as we pleased. With a rental license, you’re working for the man. As far as I’m concerned, that’s f**#ed up.”

Ok -so now this is cheap.

    https://twitter.com/adaxem/status/331873660317081600

Does anyone feel good faith from a company willing to wring it out of charities and underfunded cultural bodies all of a sudden?

Apparently someone just tried to put this question to Shantanu Narayen at adobe Max, the reply was –

    CreativeCloudmmmmCreativeCloudsssssCreativeCloKKCreativeCloCreativeCloCreaCrrrrraaaaaaaiii.

then he started climbing over people screaming for them to hand over their wallets. then he was restrained and the press conference was shut down.

they’re getting desperate: some adobe PR guy is googling pretentious quotes and sticking them up now.

    https://twitter.com/Adobe/status/331844559501942787

‘If you foster the overlap of creative fields, tap the critical mass & foster attribution, you have a creative meritocracy’

They’re attributing that beauty to the behance guy – who presumably has an adobe PR guy screaming at him to say something deeply meaningful about hire purchase software.

So fret not everyone – adobe aren’t on a tapped out subscriber cash grab – they’re actually remaking society and reality in their own creative image.
