August 28, 2010 at 1:58 amYeah, that could be your problem. Very large project files have tendencies to crash more often. I would suggest that you get a copy of Shane Ross’ DVD of FCP oiganization techniques.

November 10, 2010 at 11:26 pmDo you mean to transcode all the xdcam material to prores first and then put it in a prores timeline or to put the xdcam material directly into the prores timeline?

November 11, 2010 at 7:56 pmI am having the same Log & Transfer problem as the previous post (Nick August-Perna on Aug 27, 2010 at 6:09:09 am). I have trashed prefs, restarted FCP and generally torn my hair out. The footage was transferred to an outboard drive from the original capture card. The footage transfers from the card and the drive on another system set-up almost like mine. The differences are not those that would affect this transfer. HELP! Thanks, Michael

November 17, 2010 at 9:10 pmWe have also been experiencing frequent crashes from working with the XDCAM codec in FCP. I have become convinced that we need to transcode everything to ProRes and eliminate cutting with XDCAM entirely. Question is, which ProRes? I have two projects:
– 1st shot with EX3 at 35Mbps XDCAM, 4:2:0, 8bits
– 2nd shot on to a NanoFlash at 100Mbps XDCAM, 4:2:2, 8bitsAnyone have any thoughts on ProRes 422 vs HQ? Also, is there anything to be said about doing a conform to 4:4:4 for colour grading?
Thanks,
Jen -

Hi Jen,
I work with both formats and no problems here.
Try to optimize your system and HDs.

I use ProresHQ for exporting my final masters.
No reason to go 444 before Color.
Out of Color could be an option if you are going to After Effect, Smoke or so, or when you are p35mm or so.
