May 22, 2012 at 6:32 am[Bret Williams] “In FCP 7 there is generally no need to ever lock tracks.”
If I am forced to have “ambient on track 3 and 4” and “voice-over on track 8” then I find it easier in FCPX´s role model to do the ambient and voice-over J-L cuts with the magnetic timeline. In FCP7 I have to go a longer way to mix these to my liking without taking them to another track, since I cannot stack them above each other.
I don´t have to “lock” the tracks, but I am forced to eventually have them in certain tracks to end up in the correct audio-bus. In FCPX I can arrange them where I want and the roles “ambience” and “voice-over” will take care of the rest.

May 22, 2012 at 6:48 amYou are right. What I was missing was using shift F to select a favorite in the timeline, that goes back into the event clip. Then as suggested above it is easy to keyword that clip. This technique allowed me to collect all the goals, all the hits etc into smart collections to then form a new project timeline.
Thanks to all those that made suggestions. I have all the goals together now, but it will still take some randomizing to get where I need. At least in the process, I really learned how to use keywords and take advantage of FCPX’s database.
