[Steve Connor] “They’ve removed the “new” badge from the Mac Pro on the Store!”

Now we wait for them to fix the mistake in their pricing.

Not quite. Apple confirms new desktops in 2013. That’s a very different thing.

[Lance Bachelder] “Seriously though – what gives? Seems like some internal confusion at Apple that I’ve never seen in the past…

I don’t know. It’s crazy though. They rewrote the entire Mac Pro page to remove all references to Nehalem and Westmere, making the only reference to the actual CPUs a buried page where they were listed by number and not by name, something that Apple has not done before. So, somebody there knew that “Westmere” would be a dead give-away that any significant change had not come. A little slick, no?

Apple did significantly drop the price of the 12 core configuration, didn’t they? New $3800 with RAM compared to old price of $5000 without RAM according to one article I read today.

I noted the price drop but considering it’s 2010 technology with a short live span (IMHO) I still think the price is on the high side. This is even more so when you look at the Quad core at $2500 when compared to an already year plus old iMac which, at top BTO price is about $2300 and will outperform it.

The new $3800 model is for the 2.40 12 core. I may be mistaken about this but I believe the old $5000 model is for the 2.66 12 core, which is the same price as the new 2.66 12 core. The only difference I see in prices is they throw in some xtra memory on the new model, which is hilarious considering how much they overcharge for the memory.

Not only are you (and Tim) a brilliant and entertaining wit on these forums, you have an encyclopedic memory! I didn’t even click on the ‘sorta maybe kinda new’ 12 core to see the prices of options. Thanks Herb and Craig!

Actually I’m a case study in approaching senility, but if you go to the refurbished section of the Apple store you will find older MacPro models listed at 15% off their original price (even if they don’t say 15% off.) If you do the math, you get what I got.
