August 30, 2010 at 10:32 pmOk, thanks John and all.
I will have to look further at Rendertest data (I did it quickly yet, but unfortunately I could not find any row with my current CPU – an Intel P8400 @ 2.26 GHz). I only found the 2010 version of the test, I should certainly dig for the HDV version of it.
I am impressed by the huge differences I could see, even between different i7 CPUs.
Best, and thanks again all,

SSDs are coming down in price. I picked up two 2nd generation 60GB OCZ last week for $100 each. They are not the fastest out now, but I already had one so knew it was already much faster than a harddrive.

I have a friend who has 2 SSD’s in a RAID 0 for his C: drive. He can load the Eclipse IDE (which is a large Java programming development environment that takes 12 seconds to load on my system) in only 3 seconds! Very impressive.
