June 18, 2012 at 3:33 pm[Gilles Gagnon] “John, just checked the SONY site for Acid Music Studio. it’s not clear to me if it comes with an extensive set of loops/samples. Do you know off hand or must I spend a fortune on creating a lib from scratch?”
It comes with 1000 free loops but to be honest, there is not enough of any one genre to be very useful. What you really need to do is buy one or two loop libraries in the genre you want to create and you’ll have a much easier time composing. It doesn’t cost a fortune. There are plenty of libraries that are only $39.95.
[Gilles Gagnon] “Another question, do you know how it compares to Ableton Live?”
I tried Abelton Live because I had gotten a “lite” version with some hardware I bought and I didn’t like it. I sat down for a day and went through the tutorials and it just seemed very counter intuitive for me. Maybe I should have given it more time? I know lots of people love it so you should download the trial and play with it before you buy. As a Vegas user, there was next to zero learning curve for ACID so it was my obvious choice. But don’t let me discourage you from Ableton. You may like it. I just don’t.

June 18, 2012 at 3:47 pmGlad to get your input John as I have also tried Live and found it counter-intuitive as well.
For Acid, where do you get your libraries from? $40 does sound reasonable for a library.

June 18, 2012 at 3:51 pmIt does with the retail version. If you want a copy, (royalty free) let me know and I can mail whatever you want. All video and audio retail suites from SONY come with discs of foley material and music loops. Contact me through my profile if you want anything.

I get them directly from Sony. The libraries from the Standard Collection are all $40.
