[Mike Kujbida] “That is just ridiculous :(“

    No it’s not! 😉

If you are using Vegas Pro 11.0, all of the “Internet” templates have been moved to the new MainConcept AVC encoder. This encoder now has the ability to make files that stream properly and it has wicked fast GPU encoding. I’m talking REAL-TIME!!! My 20 minute Boris TV episodes now take 20 minutes to render using MainConcept AVC where as before they to 3x to 5x to render with Sony AVC. I no longer had to run my MP4 files through MP4FastStart. I’m now creating streaming ready MP4 files using MainConcept AVC.

    Just to repeat:

If you are using Vegas Pro 10.0 or earlier, use Sony AVC for Internet encoding

If you are using Vegas Pro 11.0 or newer use MainConcept AVC for Internet encoding.

    Great info John!

So if you have to provide an 720 HD video to a client for say… a conference screening off a laptop, would you use the Inet Main Concept render to render the video file for them? (SVP 11)

[John Rofrano] “No it’s not! ;-)”

My apologies John. I have Pro 11 but haven’t had the chance to install it yet (waiting for my IT department to give me a new machine) so I wasn’t aware of these changes.
Thanks very much for pointing them out to us.

I have been using the Main Concept AVC and it is quite fast. I di email Sony. All for naught. Thanks John

Yes, that’s what I would use.

No problem… didn’t you see my big wink!? It was a surprise to me too when I first saw it but the MainConcept AVC encoder really rocks now.

    Thanks again John,

I had done some render tests a while back which showed MC taking a lot longer than Sony AVC to render… Had to use the “CPU Only” option as SVP 11 errors when using GPU with:

“an error occured while creating the media file…. the reason for the error could not be determined”

I can only seem to be able to use MC if I use “CPU only”

I have the latest SVP updates and when I use “check GPU” I get “Open CL available”

    any ideas?

So does this mean that any customized Templates based on Sony AVC should be discarded with Vegas 11? Their new counterparts in MainConcept AVC should be used to make any customized Templates.

I have Vegas 11 but haven’t installed it yet after seeing the hit/miss threads here.

[Tyson Onaga] “So does this mean that any customized Templates based on Sony AVC should be discarded with Vegas 11? “

They don’t have to be discarded. You can continue to use your custom Sony AVC templates and you will continue to get the same results as you did in Vegas Pro 10. It’s just that the MainConcept AVC encoder now supports streaming/progressive download and faster GPU encodes. So I would recommend that you at least look at recreating them for the MainConcept AVC encoder because, if you think about it… it doesn’t make sense to have an “Internet” template that doesn’t support progressive downloads so it doesn’t make sense to continue using those old templates. But you can.
