I’ve actually been using GIMP a lot on my linux machine and while some of the tools don’t work very intuitively (especially if you’re used to Photoshop), for ‘conforming’ graphics files it’s been performing fine.

    Another option is Krita; https://krita.org/
It’s focused on and tailored more to creative digital painters etc, but can do all the things you’d need it to do for creating title cards and whatnot, and is very scriptable / automatable. (which is amazing as a data manager, since it’ll allow me to wrap multi layered EXR files into photoshop documents to send off to client)

I use Photoshop Elements instead of full Photoshop. Has same keyboard commands as Photoshop, with at least 90% of the functionality. It has all the functions I’m interested in. The Organizer part of Elements has some of the functionality of Lightroom. I can import Raw files from my camera into the Organizer, then when the Editing module loads the Raw file, it has a pre-processing module that has the Lightroom tools, at least the ones I use.

This time of year, I suspect Photoshop Elements is dirt cheap. I upgrade about every four years.

Adobe subscription allows to to have it on two computers and sign in on both at the same as long as you don’t actively run both at the same time.

Adobe has finally pushed me over the edge.
After looking around, I settled on Capture One v20. Let me say I wonder why I didn’t change a long time ago. C1 interfaces nicely with my Tangent control surfaces. In addition, the latest v20 has amazing features enabling layers and layer masks. Years ahead of Adobe technology.

I had to subscribe to lightroom because I need to write some metadata on photos and couldn’t find any other app that could do it.,
