Before the ceremony, at the location, shoot a color bar chart with both cameras, will help you match them later. Internally generated bars are not the same.

People forget just how crucial good audio is on something like this. The audience may forgive shaky video, but will not sit and watch anything at all if the sound is bad.

Put a wireless lav on the groom and it will pick up himself, the bride, and the officiant during the key parts of the ceremony. Use shotgun on a separate channel as back-up. If you can’t tap into the sound board, you can always mic a speaker cabinet at least, if they are in reach.

But there may be another way. Free tip: many modern churches have an assisted listening device for hard-of-hearing people: a short range wireless transmitter in the church or temple feeds individual receiver packs with a simple earphone. If you have the right adaptors from ratshack, you can tap into this and roam while keeping the house audio. It worked surprisingly well for me, and saved me a lot of trouble because it meant I didn’t need to independently mic the lector’s podium, the chorister/cantor’s position, etc. I got a free good quality mono mixed feed of all of that wirelessly, for free. Just be sure to bring extra batteries of your own, adaptes and cables, and check everything out at the rehearsal, bring the gear if you can, just for CYA.

She gave you a shot list, fine, but shoot a bunch of b-roll and cutaways anyhow. The stained glass widows, exterior wides of the church/temple, an invitation card, etc. Get a lot of audience shots before the Moms and dads are seated, and a few seconds of them after that point as well. If there is an altar or decorations, get some closeups ahead of time there as well. it’s all for covering the edit later.

[david bogie] “This project is doomed.”

What a crap thing to say, especially to a Cow leader. That’s disrespect, plain and simple. Chris is a very accomplished filmmaker, and he can easily make a wedding video. It’s not rocket science.

[Andy Mees] “Why especially to a Cow leader DRW?”

Because, like most people on the Cow, Cow leaders are generous, helpful, kind, supportive, and respectful, only even more so.
