Vegas 9: Media Offline (saw multiple threads on this, no answer)

Uninstalled K-Lite and ffdshow, restarted, reinstalled ffdshow, restarted, went to VFW configuration -> decoders -> codecs -> XVID, clicked the drop-down and changed it to libavcodec -> apply.
Still none of the videos opened. Tried changing a few of the other codecs to libavcodec also, but still nothing.
I don’t need to change any settings in Vegas, correct?

Now this is weird.
Opened up a new file, but when I drag in one of the videos, I can only bring in the audio… the video portion doesn’t even show up as “offline.” Now this used to happen with certain obscure file-types when I was importing them into SV8, but never with a simple .avi file.
Clearly this is a codec issue regarding SV9. Damn!

I’m guessing that first pic is the pop-up that opens when you attempt to render as an .avi? The only difference between either of your pics and my settings is that I can’t choose “ffdshow video codec” as a video format because it’s not an option. Regardless, even if I did have that as an option, would that even affect the “offline” issue at all?

Alright, sounds like an uninstall/reinstall is in order.
I didn’t mess with the preferences too much, but where is the “Ignore 3rd party codecs” check box? I looked in the preferences/general, but didn’t see it there.

Peter, “Ignore 3rd party DV codecs” is in the very first screen that comes up (i.e. Options – Preferences).

Do you have SV9? Because it’s not in options-preferences for me.

I’m using Vegas Pro 8 but it’s been in that location with every version of Vegas that I’ve ever used.
It’s the 18th item on the list that starts with “Automatically open last project on startup”. -
Ya, it’s not there for SV9, or anywhere in the preference tabs.

When I was having this problem and contacted Sony Support about it, here is what they said. I really didn’t like their solution but it was what it was…and it did work although I usually don’t dump all my files in the same folder as the .veg file – kind of defeats the purpose of having folders to organize things if Vegas has trouble locating files that are actually there.
“Try starting a new project in Vegas Pro 9.0 and importing your files. Then go to File > Save As and check the box that says, ‘copy media with project’. When you do this, all of the media used in your project will be copied to the same folder that the main project file is saved to. This should allow you to avoid any subsequent issues with missing files.”
“Putting a check in the ‘Copy Media with Project’ box will create a copy of every piece of media used in your project and store it in the same folder as your .veg file. This way, when you open the .veg file later, the program should not have any issues re-opening each individual clip on the timeline”

You will have to uninstall your current updated quick time player with and older version. I think 7.74 or older.
Vegas has had this problem for sometime now and I don’t think they updated their settings in Vegas to match Quick Time latest versions.
