Vegas 6.0 Killing After Effects
Posted by Rich Stahle on April 27, 2005 at 8:16 pmAnyone else seeing this?
I installed Vegas 6.0 along with upgrade to DX9.0c and Frame Net 1.1 as required.
Sony Vegas 6.0 worked fine – no problems.HOWEVER – After Effects 6.5 and 6.0 would crash anytime I tried to drag/add content (jpg/avi/mov etc) to the project. After Effects 5.5 still worked however.
I tried uninstalling MS Frame Network 1.1 SP – AE 6.5 and 6.0 still crashed.
I removed Sony Vegas 6.0 – and then After Effects 6.5 and 6.0 worked fine.
SOMETHING with VEGAS 6.0 is causing After Effects 6.0 and 6.5 to crash bigtime.

I use AE just about every day – after intalling Vegas 6 – AE started crashing . . . afer unintalling Vegas 6 0 the crashes stopped.
Any ideas what it might be?
I did try uninstalling then re-installing 6.5 – didn’t change anything though still crashed until I uninstalled Vegas 6.

April 28, 2005 at 2:47 amtry starting over .. use system restore and go back to day before you installed .net/DirectX9c/V6 …
then install them one at a time .. after each install check to see if AE is working …
use internet explorer – tools – windows update so you install/restart in the order microsoft list them … V6 will be last -

April 28, 2005 at 2:37 pmyeah just tried that – didn’t work.
Bottom line: On my PC for some reason when V6 is installed, AE crashed when attempting to import any media (jpg/avi/mov etc).
If I uninstall V6 – AE qorks fine. Wierd.
ANOTHER WIERD THING!
Since I installed/uninstalled V6 – the Sony plugins that default on the audio tracks are gone – Noise Gate/Compressor/EQ.
WTF?
I tried reinstalling V4 and V5 – they are still gone. What a royal pain in the ass.
I may ignore this since in the next month or so I plan to wipe my drive and reinstall WinXP – – It has been 2+ years and things are noticably slower time for a fresh install of everything perhaps. That will take me a week w/all the software and plugins I have holy crap. *lol*

April 29, 2005 at 4:05 pmI was just talking to Sony online ordering the upgrade. I was having a problem with 6.0 Media Manager and they recommended downloading the update — 6.0a He said they didn’t get everything fixed in the disc handed out at NAB. Maybe that would fix it.

April 29, 2005 at 4:35 pmI installed ms framenet update 1.1, updated direct x to 9.0c, then installed vegas 6.
Next time I tried running AE when I try to drag any media type into a project ae crashes (avi. jpg, mov etc)
I uninstalled vegas 6 and ae quit crashing.
