Activity Forums VEGAS Pro Vegas 12 coming out soon

Although this announcement does not alleviate the pain of owning Vegas 11 the changes in 12 to the “Pro” side of editing illuminate the reasons why they never fixed 11. They were all working on 12. A redesigned color space means they were building/restructuring a rendering engine to go along with it. They obviously did not want to put resources on fixing what we can all hope to be obsolete problems (which after reading these boards over the last year led me to believe that mathematical inconsistencies between OFX, legacy plugins, and the different color spaces caused 80 percent of the crashes.) Hopefully this also means that the cuda implementation was being ostensibly designed for 12 and that is why it sucked so badly in 11.

Then again 12 could be just more of the same… mostly hype and a patchwork of code from too many development teams over the years.

[Jeff Schroeder] “I’ve only spent a couple of hours with it, maybe 3. It did not crash, not even once. But then neither is my install of 11 crashing. I don’t know why.

I presume you were part of the beta program.

Lucky you not to have crashes in 11. I was able to recover 100% of the time from the crashes, but it was just annoying when it happened. Some days I could not tweak the Video FX without needing to restart Vegas after every second visit to the event, and on other days, nothing.

My system specs: Intel i7 970, 12GB RAM, ASUS P6T, Vegas Pro 11 (x32/x64), Windows 7 x64 Ultimate, Vegas Production Assistant 1.0, VASST Ultimate S Pro 4.1, Neat Video Pro 2.6

Does the fact that Version 12 is coming mean that there will be no more patches for 11?

    Thanks in advance

Does anyone know what the approximate upgrade fee will be?

Ron, your guess is as good as mine.
Here’s what it was in past years.
    2009 – Pro 9 – US$184.95
    2010 – Pro 10 – US$139.95
    2011 – Pro 11 – US$139.95

I am trying to be as optimistic as you, but Vegas 11 was a real pain. I consider it to be an incomplete release, with constant crashes with anything from the GPU rendering to using the new text, closing an effects window, color correcting…

So, the question is: when we get Vegas 12, will they support us? Or will they leave us alone again to start working on v13?
