It’s rated for everything up to RGB 4:4:4 from an SR deck.
It’s been quite the workhorse for me at work.
A great product to be sure.”
Great to hear. We’re looking at that and a few others. Really excited about running a Fibre unit with the new Final Cut Server coming along soon.

Have you looked at Facilis TerraBlock?
While it doesn’t have all the bells and whistles, but it works without fail. We’ve been using it for a year now and the only issue I’ve had is that the server is run by Windows XP and it crashed on me once in the last year. Not a real problem, just reboot and back up like normal.

Price is a stumbling block for us right now. Even with all the cards and management software we need to purchase, the Ciprico will come out quite a bit cheaper than the Facilis at the same storage amount. I do like what Facilis has done with the all the management inside the box and I know a few folks using it, but the price is a bit too high for the amount of storage I would get.

I did the math when I got my unit early last year, and with everything added up it was within 10% of the cost, so I went with 24D unit, and I have between 4 and 6 machines connected and humming.
The darn thing has run for over a year and only one hiccup, and that was when the power to my building was cut due to a traffic accident. I loved that it was plug and play.

May 1, 2007 at 1:41 pmI can understand that…. We had that very issue at first ourselves. We did have the advantage that we are a subsidiary of a larger company who split the cost with us so they could have a reliable backup.
Have you looked into the ProMax FibreMax? I purchase all of my computer equipment through them and I have had absolutely no issues with them. They look more reasonable than some.

Love ProMax as a company, but I honestly don’t know of any production companies running their storage solutions. Facilis and Ciprico are well known to me and I know they have a lot of installations out there.

May 1, 2007 at 7:22 pmWalter what are the cards and management software you intend to use with the ciprico as a san?
Some day I may need multi edit system access to our array and I would love to keep the existing disk array.

Not sure exactly which cards yet as we’re probably a month away from making the purchase. Waiting for some new products to come out.
