Unable to import PSD files as composition

I’ve tried File/Import, as well as double clicking on the Project Pane to open the Import window. Neither one were successful.

Hi Melbrin
If the Photoshop file contains layers but you can’t import them to After Effects, usually it’s because the Photoshop file is in CMYK color mode.
Change it to RGB and try to import it again.

This can also happen when trying to import multiple Photoshop files at once with drag and drop, so just import them through the proper command.

are you sure the psd files are layers ?
also, try :
file > import > file> select the file and click on the drop down menu that says import as and select composition (retain layer size).

Thanks for the responses.
Yes all PSD layered files are in RGB mode. I’ve also attempted to import it as composition (retaining layers) and still nothing. I’ve owned the last three versions of AE and i’ve never encountered this issue.
I tried to import 5 different layered PSD files, but it is only allowing me to use the footage option and not composition.

Wow. How frustrating.

I’m grasping at straws here too but perhaps try this:

From My Computer (unless you have a file manager utility you prefer), Open up the needed folder & try dragging the psd file directly into the Project window. Same issue or did it give you the options this time?

If still the same, have you possibly updated or installed something that “took over” the .PSD association?

I doubt if purging memory or the caches will help, but I believe there’s a way of restoring defaults if it comes to that. Someone else will need to point you in that direction; I’ve never needed to do that fortunately.

Show us a full screen capture (video if possible) step by step to what you are doing exactly so we can pin point the problem.

Yes I’ve considered reinstalling the software to eliminate the possibility of a corrupted file or setting. I’ll give it a couple more days to see if anyone has another solution. Thanks.

Is your Ae version the most updated of cs6? You should be using 11.0.6
Also, did this ever work with any psd?

Yes it’s the latest version CS6 and I tested it with a variety of psd files that were created with CS3, CS5, and CS6 to no avail.
