    So you have a clip on the left |||||||||||||||||||] [||||||||||||||||||| and a clip on the right, both 6 frames apart (by taking 3 frame on each side)? And then…

    David, although technically speaking, handles have been referred to as unused media beyond your edit point, in which case the part of the media within a transition is not really a handle. Page 378 Section 2 of The FCP5 manual refers to this part of the media within a transition as “handles”.

    Frank,

    There you go, Apple has reinvented the language of film. I stand corrected. That’s a riot…

    Yeah as we all get older we all have to learn the new lingo. These days every man and his dog with a video camera is out shooting a “Feature Film”.

    Six frames apart????

    The clips have to be butting against each other. If both clips are at the limit of their available media there isn’t any space to overlap the clips during the transition and it will fail. You need to create the space for the transition by rippling back the two shots from the edit point to create the necessary handles (Apple’s term for it).

    All the best,

    <------>
    So it looks like this: ||||||||\\\][///|||||||||, and the effect would be laid over the slashes?
