To Drop or not to Drop

Why worry about all those different digital broadcast formats?
I just bought a brand new HD-DVD player, so I’m ready for the future. Put it right next to my Betamax vcr.

I guess since I’m not an engineer type I don’t understand what all the fuse is about. Didn’t seem like doing everything in Drop Frame would ever cause you a problem. Especially if you have a device that requires it. Other then losing a few 0s and 1s every now and again it seems pretty transparent to me. Only time I have had a problem was on a multicam shoot and audio and video where set up differently as the confirm didn’t workout but we where able to fix it by hand.

We’ve just been doing it non-drop for over 30 years so didn’t see a reason to change just because a piece of equipment doen’t allow it. Our system works so we’d rather stay consistent. I do agree with you though that the choice is no real big deal. Thanks for the input Michael
