Hi, I have heard alot of negative things about Premiere Pro unitl verson 1.5 came out. I currently run a company useing liquid edition pro 5.62 but the company has been sold to Avid. Anways, I am also looking at getting final cut pro. People have told me that Premiere Pro is not a professional system. I don’t think I agree with that. I am looking at getting a very fast system, Faster then what I have. Liquid is Fast and Pinnacle people like to get Premiere People to switch to them but I am Scared of getting 6.1 of Pinnacle because I the system still has bugs in it.

Can anyone please tell me the benifits of useing Premiere Pro for Professional Use. Does it have the ability to editied a Motion Picture? I will be shooting a Movie this summer on HD or HDV and want a system that will work for me. Also, Has anyone got any ideas on what computer components will be need to run a very fast system. The Faster the system the better when it comes to rendering. Also How is the Picture with Premier Pro.

    Thanks,

Where have you been seeing all these negative things about Premiere Pro? I’m on most if not all of the major forums and have seen mostly extremely positive things… are you just taking a wild swing to see what gets stirred up?
    Regards

I just switched to Premiere Pro from Vegas 5 and I like it a lot, however, I have to agree with him that I’ve been hearing that Premiere Pro is not a professional system like FCP or Avid. I’ve mainly posted in the MGLA group (Motion Graphics LA) and those guys are professionals in the business. The response was negative on Premiere Pro. I hope that perception will start changing in the industry with version 2.0 (whenever that comes out).

Some of these generalist forums are sometimes slightly behind the curve or the cutting edge or whatever you choose to call it.(Most of the people on those forums repeat 2nd hand opinions not based on personal experience.) Premiere Pro 1.5 is so close to FCP that you can use the training resources from one to learn the other (with only minor exceptions).(Yes, I think PPro “learned” a lot from FCP!)
Avid has several iterations/versions so direct comparisons becomes more complex… when it comes to real world editing, PPro is every bit as “professional” as any of the mentioned applications.
Where Avid is stronger is in workgroup systems where several systems can be connected for a collaborative workflow.
PPro is strongest when it comes to it’s tight integration with Adobe After Effects, Audition, Encore and Photoshop… none of the others have it quite so comprehensively sorted yet.

You are preaching to the choir. I love PPro. I can’t wait until v2.0

I’ve switched from what was once a megabuck discret edit/combustion system. It was tricky at first, but I’d never go back. I have two State Gold Medal PPro projects in the national cinematography awards this week that could be termed “high-end”. It’s a nonsense. I lost count of the times clients came in and looked at my discreet edit and said, “Nice Avid.”

I love stories like that! Good for you! Hey, that movie that is out now, Dust To Glory, I read a white paper that it was edited in Premiere Pro 1.5….It’s not Cold Mountain, but heck!

Yep, price and name doesn’t gaurante anything. I’ve seen some pretty ordinary stuff come out of Avid and smoke factories…

I think that most of those who say the PPro is not a professional program, have simply not tried it and are going on what they may have known or heard about Premiere 5 through 6.5. PPro 1.5 is a professional program that alows for great flexability for people with different editing styles. The integration with other Adobe products is wonderful! They are doing some wonderful things to keep pace with HDV.

Having said that, however, if you are shopping, and interested in RT, don’t overlook Edius. I have recently done a number of edits in Edius and have found it to be fast, stable and a whole lot of RT.

Cold Mountain was offlined on FCP…Dust to Glory was ONLINED on Premiere Pro…

    Worth noting…
