    Get the registered/certified RAM.

Also, always remember to buy your RAM in “pairs” or all at once (recommended) to avoid RAM issues.

I spoke with OWC, and they assured me that the certified and non certified RAM were identical.

I don’t actually have a Mac (I considered it briefly), so I can’t say from experience that they are the same, but unlike other non-certified RAM, which can be designed differently, these were actually designed to Apple’s specs. They gurantee that it will work, and have a lifetime replacement policy for it if it doesn’t.

But for a few extra bucks, you can not worry about it, and get some sleep. But I just wanted to mention that.

    Regarding on-site support…

May I just note, Apple will schedule an on-site service visit if you request it. Twice Apple sent a tech to my home office to service a G5 while it was under it’s extended Apple Care agreement.

I will definitely get the 3 year Apple Care plan on any Mac I purchase.

    Happy shoppping

If you need FCP in addition to AE, PP, etc., a Mac is your only choice. Is there an issue with After Effects and Open GL on OSX? I think there is. Is it a big deal? Might not be for you.

Boxx systems (pc based: http://www.boxxtech.com) are speedy machines.

Lots of options, but it always depends on what you need and how much money you’re able to spend.

If your talking PC’s, then check out BOLData computers: http://www.boldata.com

My newest machine is a BOLData machine – they can customize more than Boxx, and they are cheaper. Not nearly as cheap as Dell or HP, but they are designed for our kind of work.

Not that Boxx is bad. I also have a Boxx and have been very happy with it.

whichever you choose I’d bump the RAM up to 16GB. They recommend a minimum of 1GB per core for AE, but with 2 you’d be singing.

I’m sorry, but I just have to chime in here when I see such blatantly wrong information posted.

This is mainly to Brian Charles statement “The nVidia board won’t help…”

    WRONG!

This board will greatly increase your rendering speed!

I’m supprised none of the “official” cowsters did not catch this.
