TC Free run is used to synchronize the internal timecode generator to an external timecode source. Have you never had occasion to use it in that way?

No really. To synchronize a TC generator with an incoming TC signal what you need is to set it in External.

Free Run, as the name suggest, makes the clock of the TC Gen not stopping. So if for example you want to record with the actual time, you synchronize the TC Gen with your watch.
This is to be avoided because between shot and shot you will find a jump in the TC. You will go nuts to capture the footage.

Thanks Rafael, but I do happen to know all about those issues. I will step out of this thread, since I do not have a DSR-11 and cannot help the original poster. I agree that Free Run should only be used in specific cases that require it — for example, synchronizing several camcorders to the same timecode.

Hi Tom,
You can synchronize few machines to the same TC source with the TC Gen set to Free Run as long as is set to External.
In this case the Free Run function is overridden. Simply stop working. Free Run can only work in Internal.
is an absolutely no sense a TC Gen picking an external TC signal and generating another one completely different.
i don’t know all about those issues, but it happens that in 1.987 I bought my first external TC Gen for a U-Matic HB. I stopped working with Betacam few years ago, but I don’t think have been many changes related with TC.
About the DSR-11 (i have one) better don’t talking. Is one of the less professional devices ever mde by SONY. Absolutely limited.
