[promoboy] “Like it or not, I’ll probably have to cut on it one day.”

Yes, you will. I’m in a market (Orlando) that was a heavy Avid town. I’ve been with Avid since the beginning, but cutting solidly on Avids since the early 90’s. I went freelance 5 years ago at a time that the market started to inch over to FCP. I chose to get chops on FCP instead of complain, so now I’m strong in both at a time when the market is almost totally FCP. Avid is still around, but in pockets, mainly at TV stations. I only do a handful of Avid jobs a year now, compared to the bulk on FCP. Turning to a client and saying I could do it this way on an Avid and it would be better, doesn’t keep you working. Now, to me one is pretty much just as good as the other. Both have strengths and weaknesses and I always miss something that’s on the “other” system I’m not using at the time … but hey – there are still some things done better in a linear suite, too 😉

    Sincerely,
    Oliver
