So I downloaded the stand-alone version of Mercalli 3.0, and while the demo only lets you stabilize the first 10 seconds of a clip, all my clips were under 10, so it worked out perfectly. Thanks.

[Steve Rhoden] “The built in stabler has quirks and limitations, will always have.”

I feel like this is the reason for so many plugins. At what point do we get to start demanding that if Sony wants us to keep paying to upgrade Vegas, they need to improve its functionality and maybe negate our need for some of these external editors? I know Adobe has the money to simply buy up companies who make better plugins than some of their built-in options, then incorporate their technology into their package. If Sony doesn’t have the resources yet I’d like to give them permission to pilfer some of the money I’ve given their Playstation division for the past 20 years to upgrade Vegas for version 14 🙂

Every NLE has an ecosystem of plug-ins. Before Sony moved their architecture to OFX customers complained that there weren’t enough plug-ins. Now that they’ve switched to OXF and lots of 3rd parties are creating plug-ins you are complaining that there are too many plug-ins?

Sony has done a great job of working with business partners and licensing software to get the functionality they need. Mercalli is the best stabilizer for Vegas Pro so Sony includes a minimal version for customers to use for free. If you need more capability, you buy the full version from ProDAD. That’s how 3rd party plug-in makers make their living. If the NLE provided everything, 3rd party plug-in makers would go out of business and you would be at the mercy of one company (Sony) to fulfill all your needs. That would not be a good place to be. Vegas Pro would soon resemble the bloated Microsoft Word where no one uses more than 10% of the functionality but everybody pays for everything (both in price and memory hogging footprint) whether they need it or not.
