[jimdumm] “Well, the AVC Intra board and a bunch of 32GB P2 cards arrive tomorrow – no doubt all will be revealed. I’ll post my findings when I’ve got a handle on things…”

Yeah, well don’t get to excited abou thte AVC Intra card, i ‘ve got that in my 2000, but FCP doesn’t support it natively yet. i had to digitize from the camera over the SDI out to get the footage out. Still looked great, but a hassle.

It does allow the same Barry. I just find that like in the old A/B roll days NOTHING is quick enough! For peace of mind redundancy is a must. I know it’s not always possible. RAID 1 is an excellent way to do it and also HD log allows you to copy to multiple locations like P2 Genie.

“I have the duel adapter for our new MacBook Pros, and i think the issue is trying to eject the adapter itself, not the card. You just eject the card like you would normally(apple+E, don’t use the mouse!) and stick in another card.”

That is some good news re the Duel Adaptor. I think I’ll have one of those now! Thanks for clearing that up.

“2] how do you verify the copy if not using P2CMS?”

If you’re using a Mac you could try this

    https://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/22492

It’s a little app called Compare Folders which does just that and gives you a side by side view of your original card plus your copy.
It’s a nice visual confirmation that all data has been copied before you go and format the card.

[jimdumm] “By the way, is there really nothing cheaper than the 5-slot unit to connect a P2 card to a Mac over USB or Firewire?”

You could use a P2 Store, it’s a little less expensive.

[jimdumm] “That sounds like a total disaster! I haven’t heard anyone complain about that before – can anyone confirm the truth of this?”

No truth to that. In the early days of the Duel Adapter you couldn’t remove THE ADAPTER without having to reboot, but you could swap cards all the time. I believe even that is fixed now, and I haven’t seen a complaint about the duel adapter in months.

My ‘source” for the Duel Adaptor rebooting issue was none other than the Panasonic P2 Software updates site!! Maybe something was Lost In Translation.

    ” Note:
If you use P2 Card with MacBookPro, DuelAdaptor is required.
The DuelAdaptor is a product of Duel Systems.
The adaptor convents PCMCIA cards to ExpressCard slot with Mac.
    Notice:
Once remove P2 Card and reinsert P2 Card, it is required to reboot
    MacBookPro before reinsertion.
Same reboot step is required when remove DuelAdaptor from
    MacBookPro and reinsert it.
Please refer to the following web site of Duel Systems for more information.
