[Gabriel Dauga] “I can’t open Sony Vegas, the message appears when I try to run it…”

Have you tried contacting Sony? You’re at the point where I think they are the only ones who can tell you why Vegas can’t even load.

I have already tried the chat but they didn’t help at all… Could you give me other places where I can contact them?

Here is a link to all of the technical support contacts:

Email is probably the best way because it’s free.

It’s clear that I’m not alone in the low system memory problem boat. I’m using Vegas Pro 9, with the latest patches, and still encounter these problems. When the low memory render crash occurs, I show over 2GB free on a system with 4GB total. So clearly, it’s not actually a low memory problem, but rather some other conflict that triggers the failure.

I have tried so many things I’ve run across online, and none have helped. One poster did post about rendering in segments, and simplifying project, and that does seem to reduce the problem occurrence. I really hate the idea of having to take some new workflow into account, in addition to everything else I need to consider.

I was actually considering moving to Vegas 10 in hopes that the problem would be resolved. I see now that this apparently is not the case, and there are plenty of reports about the same problem.
I really like Vegas, and think it superior to comparable platforms in my view. Unfortunately, I’m just about ready to go another route unless I can find a practical solution.

Have you tried setting your Dynamic RAM Preview to zero (0) and your Rendering Threads to 1? That might help.

I’ve reduced rendering threads to two, and then to one. Preview ram has been reduced to zero. I’ve also killed most unneeded processes. One interesting thing I’ve noticed. The problem most often occurs when attempting to render complex projects as AVC. The very same project renders successfully as mpeg2.

What if you rendered to AVI first and then open a new project and render the one AVI to AVC? Then it won’t be a complex project anymore.

This is one option I had not yet tried, and it indeed did work. It’s a little added time and trouble, but nowhere near as bad as having to split up a project.

Thanks so much for the suggestion and quick response!

You’re welcome Joe. I don’t know why Vegas has trouble with memory when rendering certain formats but there is usually a work around. I’m glad that worked for you.

Before I read this forum (thanks to all the information here), when I got the dreaded ‘low memory’ error, I would reboot (Windows 7) in ‘Safe Mode’ by pressing the PF8 as it restarts. I’d then render the project, and when finished, restart back to normal Windows.

It would be interesting to know if this helps others with this frustrating Vegas ‘feature’.

    Cheers
