Sony V1U capture issues

Well, if you’re running 10.5.5 it blows my theory out of the water. Something changed for the worse in Apple’s firewire with the release of Leopard, and it’s been wrecking havoc on Avid’s older, firewire based hardware (Adrenaline and Mojo). The firewire changed so it couldn’t keep up with the demands of the Avid hardware.

10.5.5 fixed these issues, so I thought–if you weren’t on 10.5.5–the firewire bug was biting you with the Sony cam, but I guess not.

Best of luck getting it figured out. Very frustrating when something should work, doesn’t, and there’s no logical reason why.

And, its the little things that count. The entire workflow now has to be changed because straight forward firewire capture is broken. It’s pretty infuriating.

Wow, this thread just jolted my memory (Oldtimer’s Disease) about a week ago I was trying to capture to ProRes via FW on my G5 (same setup as DRW’s) and it kept bailing on the capture after a few seconds. I think that machine is still on 10.5.4. It still captures via FW fine for DV material, so I dunno.

You just reminded me, I have a clone of 6.01 under Tiger. I’ll try that out… Just goes to show, rants can become fruitful…

Before you totally rip your hair out….

Check and see how the camera records timecode. The default is Auto. This causes these kinds of problems every single time. Set your camera to DF or NDF and all of your timecode issues will disappear. we had the exact problem you have and this was the answer for us.

Two things.

Have you checked to make sure that you have your FCP set Time Code Breaks to Warn After Capture,
and have you reset your prefs?

I’m sure you have, but just checking.

Oh yeah!!! I did it all. Odd thing is, while regular firewire capture is completely f—ed-up, capture to ProRes is flawless. So, looks like I’ll be using ProRes exclusively for HDV as I’ve been doing prior. But, before it was by choice…
