Sony HVR MRC1 Log Transfer Apple ProRes

Aloha! I also have the Z5U, and am having difficulty bringing in my clips from the MRC1 Unit.
is it my driver, or a problem with Snow Leopard? Is Clipwrap similar to streamclip? Not familiar with it. I keep getting an error message that I’m disconnecting the unit.

Aloha to you, too. Have you tried bringing your clips in with a compact flash card reader? That is what I do. e.g. I connect a card reader with my card from the MRC1 and drag and drop them onto a portable hard drive using my Macbook pro. Once the card loads as a drive on your desktop you can get to your clips that have the date in the file name. I create a folder for the clips from the MRC1 and a folder for the Clip wrap files once they have been “wraped”. I don’t know the comparison of streamclip to clipwrap. I believe streamclip is free. I am having great results with clipwrap. It gives you many options, the one I use the most in clip wrap is the option to save the file as an Apple Prores HQ file. This makes it easier to edit with my Macbook pro. I just import the clips into FCP and I’m off and editing.
I did try to log and capture with firewire and was having difficulties due to not having my system setting set to match the clip setting from my camera. Let me know if this helps.

That is the only way you can bring them in. That isn’t the issue. I can bring them
in to final cut just fine with my flash card reader using Log and Transfer but only as
HDV. There is no way to transcode them to Apple Pro Res when using Log and Transfer
except if you are working at 24fps. -

I am now dealing with the same problem you describe: trying to get footage from CF card via a card reader (filmed with z5u w/mrc1) converted to Pro Res via FCP 7 log and transfer (downloaded sony’s plugin). I don’t see any menu for selection choices for a format. When I add a clip to the log and transfer cue it makes it hdv.

The way I deal with it, which actually works pretty well for me, I just bring it in as HDV and
then drop it onto an Apple Pro Res timeline. The log and transfer with the HDV media goes
very fast. If it were transcoded to APR on ingest, it would take a while so bringing it in Native
and dropping it on the APR timeline works well for me. If you shoot 24fps then Sony does include
an option to transcode to APR 24fps via Log and Transfer. -

Another issue with log and transfer: it will not preview the clips. Would like to be able to do that in order to pick and choose clips and set in and out points before sending to que. Does preview work for your “z5u mrc1 cf card clips?”

That is the same for me. However, even a full 32GB CF transfers very quickly so I just
transfer the whole thing and then delete what I don’t want once it is transfered.
