Sony HDR-FX1 – trouble w/ VIDEO CAPTURE in HDV with FCP

Hello Ryan,

Thanks for the advice. I was able to get it to work when I unplugged the firewire plug from the front to one on the back. I saw that on one of the posts and tried it out. Thanks also for the ‘Apple Intermediate Codec’ note. All those choices . . .

My mistake. I went through my picture a while ago and just deleated. Basically, make sure your Sequence Preset is either AIC or Apple Pro Res at 60i and Capture Preset is either AIC or Pro Res as well.

What issues are you having?

Had the same problem and what fixed it was plugging it in to the back of the computer instead of the front (which was what I was doing). Hope this helps…

I tried the settings you recomended, and still no luck. FCP is reading the camera but will not import footage. One thing I have noticed is on my Sony HDR-FX1 where the firewire connects to the camera, there is a two blue lights, with the words, “HDV” and “DV” and while the firewire is connected the blue light is on HDV, when I hit “Play” to begin importing footage, the blue light switches to “DV”, the import screen stays black and does not import any footage. I’m wondering if maybe there is a setting on the camera I’m missing that is trying to get it to import as “DV” instead of “HDV”.

My camera is the SONY HDr-FX1 and my computer is a MAC OS X Version 10.5.8 and I’m running the newest version of Final Cut Pro, i’m importing with a Belkin 800/400 9-pin to 4-pin Firewire Cable.

Any imput would be great!

Oh ok. This is a camera thing. Sounds like FCP is set to go though.

You’ll want to turn the VCR to HDV, and then turn off iLink Conversion as well as AV to DV…all off. These settings (mainly iLink and AV to DV) tell your NLE to import SD footage, not HDV.

This should work out for you. The VCR should show HDV then.

Not a problem. The settings can be a bit confusing, but once you know what needs to be done – its no more difficult than setting up a project in FCP.
