February 4, 2018 at 7:12 pmI’ll add one more thing for working in 4k. I edit a lot of Instagram videos where the footage comes to me in 4k but I scale it to 4:5. Typically once the footage is in the sequence I “Set to Frame Size” to scale accordingly, but this wreaks havoc on the paint bucket, so make sure you are using “Scale to Frame Size” for the effect to work. Took me some figuring out why the effect wasn’t working as posted, but there it is! FWIW I’m using CC2017.

June 11, 2018 at 12:31 pmBrilliant solution. Loved it.
But, I can’t get this to work in PremierePro CC2018 v12, on a mac.
I tried all possible combinations to no avail.
I’m just curious if others have this issue or if it’s my system… let’s see what data we amass. -

April 7, 2019 at 7:28 pmIt appears that every year Adobe changes how this works so we have to constantly update the instructions and find new hacks for what should be an included feature. That being said, here is a way I tested in CC 2018:
– Add the “Radial Shadow” effect to the clip.
– Set the Light Source values to match the Anchor Point found under the Motion effect (expand Motion effect above).
– Change the Shadow Color to the color you want the frame to be.
– Check the box “Resize Layer”. You should now see the border
– Set Opacity to 100%
– Adjust Projection Distance to the desired border thickness
– Enjoy!
