December 26, 2013 at 8:05 pmI went with a 12-core/D700 configuration. But the D700 is motivated by Resolve, and the 12-core is motivated by DCP encoding. I think if I mostly just ran FCP X I’d have gone for the stock 6-core model. Maybe the D700 upgrade anyway just because that $600 price is so attractive.

December 26, 2013 at 8:47 pmWe went with the same route as you Chris.
Just loaded three with 12-cores. D700 and 64GB/1TB.
Might as well see how that works. -

That is exactly why I chose the 6 core model! Wanted to go for 8 cores at first but couldn’t justify that extra €1500,- for those 2 cores. Went with the D700’s because at €600 they’re a bargain. Just starting to work in Resolve so I’m glad to see you picked the D700’s because of Resolve.
I’m very happy with what’s coming in february. Only hope 32GB is enough for my sample libraries but we’ll see. 🙂

December 27, 2013 at 8:32 amWent with 6 cores, d700, 32gb and the 512gb boot drive.
8 cores was too much money and too much of a drop of CPU speed.
Wonder if I need 512 for boot drive because my current one is 256 with 78gb free but I also want to run an install of Boot Camp this time around so felt better with a little more room available.
I got my order in within 2 minutes of the machine going on sale and delivery says “January.” Keep hoping that means early January!

December 27, 2013 at 12:38 pmFolks at REDUSER are looking at the 8-Cores.
It sounds to be the best set-up for utilizing current RAM and certain processes.
Some have stated that the 12-Core is overkill but I dont mind making that mistake 🙂 -

December 28, 2013 at 4:10 pmI am very undecided, but I think I’ll eventually order a quad core with 16gb RAM and maybe D500’s. I am not an editor, meaning I create and deliver video documentaries, so the editing process is only a part and not full time for me. No chances the satellite channel I work exclusively for asks for 4k in the next three years. I don’t edit for clients, so a few minutes more for an export or a rendering (that I usually launch during the night) are not really an issue. I think it would anyway be better than a maxed out iMac or MBP, that would maybe be enough for my needs. I like that there are many usb3 and TB ports and an HDMI for external monitoring, so I won’t need an external dock and an external i/o unit.
