[Evan Schafer] “My simplest but most effective and frequently used key combo in an edit session is SHIT+Z”

must be the kind of edit session when you can’t even leave your chair to go to the crapper.

q‘ for toggling between canvas and viewer
not my favourite, but useful. also ‘w‘ for toggling between wireframe modes.

I’m an Avid editor and I’m just learning FCP. Does anyone know of the equivalent of this Avid shortcut? alt x which extracts the marked section and loads it into your source. Or in FCP terms, the section of the timeline gets ripple deleted and loaded into your viewer, ready to be edited back into the timeline.

    Thanks all

Sorry, you can’t do it in one step as far as I know and it involves dragging. Command-U will put a marked section to the Browser as a sequence but there is no shortcut to open a sequence in the Viewer – you have to drag. It won’t ripple delete for you too.

That’s good to know, thank you. It would be good if FCP could have it in the future because it’s very very useful for moving stuff around in the timeline.

    Cheers

Remember that you can use command – X .. and then Shift- V to insert it (not the same thing as you are looking for, but could help you a bit)

You can also Shift-X. That will cut and ripple.
