charlie, a feature being cut in X is immense good news. realtime 64×64 video grids maybe not so much.

If you think the timeline is fine – great. there is a terrific argument that apple have unanswered questions in their timeline.
While I don’t have time now, if you like, I will demonstrate this later.

I find you can casually tear the entire FCPX timeline apart with audio above and below, connected clips and secondary storylines. Pretty soon X is creating dissolve only secondary storylines etc. If you really really try, the X timeline has absolutely no clue what’s happening. it’s in spasms.

I just did an hour or two at it, and its pretty entertaining.

Of course it is, but video grids are more fun to watch on vimeo. I like the editors timeline blog too, no matter what NLE is pictured.

I don’t think I’ve ever argued that it’s unbridled perfection, there are a lot of things that need refinement, some bugs, some things that need to be implemented one way or another. None are showstoppers at all in my day to day, and a lot of the features are very helpful. fear not, I swear at X just like any other NLE, though not as much.

I’m sure you can blow it up… I’ve done it on purpose too just to see what would happen. You can blow up any program if you try. I like the fact that I can put A/V wherever i want in the TL. That’s a feature, not a bug. 😉

charlie as best as I can put it, the reason the X timeline should fail is because it fails as a coding exercise. Everything on it has a conditional state. They’re not extant video objects, they’re all in really circumscribed conditional states.

that timeline deserves to die because its a stupid application of coding, and that timeline can be pulled apart over the course of 30 seconds of intense effort. the X timeline is wildly over-engineered. Apple need to back off and produce robust dis-interested VA objects in a clear absolute time. they can’t all have massively complex parent subordinate statements relative to each other. If Apple wanted to do that they should have built smoke with a room that made it nodally explicit.

there is no point in apple having conceptually tortured the timeline in they way they have, because it leads to no nodal statement or other expression that builds on the forced relationships they are demanding in the timeline. In essence – why are we all going through this, when the incredibly intricate relationships have no further value outside moving clumps on the timeline?
Where is the valid post production expression of these stupidly complex VA interlinked editing relationships?
    is it just for fun?

what in the exact hell is all this pointless complexity for?

    bueller?

Um… to drive you crazy? Doesn’t seem that complex to me. Pretty simple actually.

well that’s definitely one way of looking at it.

I’m serious though. The X timeline, for me, is really easy, and powerful to cut in. I couldn’t care less how it’s coded, or designed, any more than I care how a word processor is coded or designed. It works for me, and I like using it. It has not stopped me from doing anything I needed to do, and it’s allowed me to do stuff that I might not have tried/though of otherwise. Clearly, your experience is different. Different strokes etc…

Can we get back to the point of this thread… which is that SHARKNADO is two hours of pure, over the top, unbelievably campy, ENTERTAINMENT! I loved it! I don’t care how it was edited… it was awesome!

can’t wait for Sharknado three: Danger in the desert!
