    Hi John,
    I rendered with the DVD template. When I preview the resulting mpg video in Media player the bottom section of the video shows “artifacts”… like horizontal sync problems when there is movement like a pan in the original footage.

    What’s going on? will this appear in the dVD as well?

    John,
    Should I be rendering the audio separately or is it OK to render with audio?

    You should render the audio separately. DVD’s are build up from separate streams.

    Thanks John, I did.
    By the way, which AC3 template should I use? I see two which have very similar names.

    Dolby Digital AC-3 Pro is the one to use.
    BTW, if you’re not happy with the DVD audio when listening to it (i.e. you find it to be too low), make the following adjustments to the stock template.

    Encode set to AC3;
    Click on custom tab;
    On the first tab set Dialog normalization to “-31”;
    On the last tab marked preprocessing;
    Set the Line Mode & RF mode profiles to “None”;
    Now save this as a preset.

    Thanks for the tip Mike,
    Is this what you usually/always do?

    I keep mine set to -30 because I felt -31 was a bit too loud so experiment some and see.
