The resources are scattered all over the net and in various books. Digital video is almost changing too fast for books that centralize information to keep up. One of the best places to start is the Final Cut manual. I”m not sure how easy it will be to use in the new HTML version. This site has always been a good source of information for me. If you don’t mind the annoying ads, the people that answer questions here are really top notch and impartial to any particular brand of gear—and BTW I put myself closer to the bottom of the list. Creative Cow has hundreds of articles and tutorials, some of which are essential to understanding how digital video in all its variations works. Also Ken Stone’s site, kenstone.net. A recent post listed this resource: https://www.proappstips.com/HDSurvivalHandbook/

September 25, 2009 at 3:12 amCould this be the same reason my feature film is taking 3+ days? The footage is in HDV and there are various effects strewn throughout. Would there be a faster way to do this? How would I convert the clips that are already in the timeline? Re capturing is not an option as all files have been worked on and keyed (film was shot in front of a green screen) and there are two years worth of visual effects involved. Worst comes to worst, I’ll cope with the long render times but if I could fix this for future projects, any help would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Karl.

September 25, 2009 at 8:45 amHi Karl,
I’m no pro but I would suggest converting your existing clips using mpeg streamclip (https://www.squared5.com)… It solved my problems! I went from a 5 day render right down to a 27 minute render…
