Aah, yes. X completely chokes on MB Looks. The performance difference between Looks in X and in Premiere is very stark. I find that X works best when you limit the effects to the built-ins and some of the ones derived from Motion templates.
I’ve also just found that clips using Animation codec bring X to its knees. This would include a lot of stock keyable transition effects like light leak clips. X also chokes on some mixed frame sizes and frame rates. For instance, DVCPRO HD 720p/59.94 in a 1080p/23.98 ProRes timeline or a 2K ProRes file in a 1080p ProRes timeline.

weird you replied that cause I just ran into that problem. its just transitions that get affected but yes that is not a good thing.
I was thinking at base editing where you place all edits in quick form.
I usually grab portions (I only do it for sfx AE stuff)for external apps at the start.
Until Apple updates FCPX, we will all have to be careful with these work arounds.
