Hi been researching on the net to find some answers and read your thread on uncompressed 10-bit playback, perhaps you can help.. I’m setting up an av event in NZ and will be creating an animation for a specific Panasonic projector capable of projecting 1366 x 768.

The file is being created by an animator at a proffessional post house, working with After Effects on a PC but I am Mac based.

We are trying to find the minimum Mac required to play this file size at the least compression preferably pixel for pixel as a QTime with the least or no compression. It will be playing off the hard drive direct in quick time pro as a loop. This is a proffessional event and I am not getting a clear answer from my local supplier. The file needs to run uninterupted and completely glich free for 8 hrs a night, I want the best possible detail…understandably!

    so three questions.

    1. What is the most compatible best looking and least processor hungry codec to use when we render the file?

    2. Do I need to buy a new computer for the event? I currently have a 2.1 Power PC G5 imac, is this capable of doing what I need reliably if I choose a codec which is not processor hungry or will I need to invest in a new box?

In which case is it the new quad Xeon or would the G5 dual imac be capable of playing this back?

When I downloaded some of the H.264 files they looked a little glitchy or wouldn’t play back on my Power PC. In the past I have had to down res files to give them to local NZ event companies to play and have not been that happy with the results, seems with a small investment I could run the thing myself. Its just getting up to speed with the dark art of Codecs and High Def playback and am a relative novice.

    3. I have also been reading up on the Black Magic products, would these help or be necessary in a G5 box?

I want to create a true Cinema level experience on a screen 5m x 2.5m and will be discarding pixels into black to make this frame size

    Help would be most welcome.
