February 3, 2012 at 9:31 pmI was talking to a guy who suggested offlining to SD, do you think there would be any time saving in the transcode process going to SD then the HD? space for us right now isn’t a issue (maybe in the future) but time is my main concern.

February 3, 2012 at 9:31 pmthe funny thing with the specturm is that it can record as MXFs but only as Op1a, and not Op-atom. when i try and AMA the op1a MXFs into MC6 i get all sorts of weird Spartial errors, or AMA plugin errors. which is a huge pain as well.
I called omneon tech support to see if there was anything i could do and they basicly told me that it isn’t designed to work with MXF and avid with out a bunch of add on transcode software. and my best bet was to work in MOVs.

I think you are on the money regarding the quicktime wrapper. I’ve experienced the same issue of slowness with AMA linked XDcam quicktimes.

February 3, 2012 at 9:47 pmTranscoding to SD does seem to take less time than transcoding to HD, though I’m assuming just because it’s less data to write. Not significantly less time, but a little less.
