ProRes HQ dropping frames on a monster Mac

As an aside…. let’s be honest, the amount of Kona presets for capture and output are…. very definitive. It’s almost too easy to hit 8 bit when you thought 10 bit and things go to the birds.
I’ve always been under the assumption that Digibeta is an 8 bit recording format, but it can transport signal via 10 bit over SDI. Correct? So even on 8 bit projects I would select 10bit output. It’s always looked really, really good.

Digibeta is 10-bit, though you could digitize and layback as 8-bit.
Blackmagic Design made a mistake on their initial easy setups and had a few prores setups set for 8-bit. That got me into trouble. 8-bit should not be an option for ProRes settings of any kind if its a 10-bit only codec. (it should be grayed out)

No incamera recording on tape is anything other than 8bit.
While the Tape format is 10bit- no camera was ever able to record that bit depth.

that would depend on when and where,
I have seen a number of 8bit betas layoffs from older Telecine’s and also from some of the less known brands,
while this is not as much of an issue in LA, it is much more common in the PAL universe.gary adcock

I never trust anything without testing on a real scope. I found some older avids never did output 10bit via sdi even though all of the times lines and processing was in 10bit, the baseband on the pipe was always 8bit out.gary adcock
