Good advice. XP is a dead-end at this point.

April 2, 2009 at 6:01 pmFirst a correction: Quicktime DOES install under XP64, don’t know why it didn’t for me the first time? Maybe because I tried to install it with iTunes?
Secondly, Premiere Pro and AE are working great under XP64, but I’m not running any proprietary hardware (such as a Matrox Card), I’m just relying on the cpu for my horsepower, so as long as the software is working, I’m all good and flying with a stack of RAM.
I’m also trying to steer clear of Vista and jump straight to Windows 7, once it’s stable.
XP64 is making a big difference to me because Premiere was running like $%&^ under XP32 because my current project is an hour long show, shot with 5 cams in 3 x DVCPROHD/ 1x XDCAM/ 1 x Some Shitty Consumer MPEG HD Format, so it’s cumbersome to say the least. The RAM limit is making the world of difference (that and the multiple RAID’s). If you’re doing .30s then you probably don’t need to go beyond XP32. (Note I’m pretty much ignoring Vista, I heard bad things to begin with, and I’m just not going there if the next OS is on the horizon).
cheers

but the performance of premiere as a standalone is the same
the system cannot allocate more ram to it as it is a 32 bit appsure you can run more stuff at once. . .
