January 25, 2010 at 1:51 amI just finished a job for PBS that was shot and then edited in XDCam. The codec bogged my (very fast new) system down. I’d jump to ProRez next time in a heartbeat. The stop/start/render time was a bummer and put a kink in my creative flow.

January 27, 2010 at 5:08 pmI’m very slow to jump on the ProRes wagon but I’d like to start using ProRes. I’ve been searching the forums and here’s a lot of info and advice but some of it is older than a year so I’m unsure if insights have changed or developments have altered the workflow.
So my question is: is there some sort of guide on how to work with ProRes ie order of actions, settings etc?
I have my browser full of EX-clips and want to work in the ProRes codec: what now? -

– Drop a clip to a sequence and conform to EX.
– Change the sequence codec to Prores.
– Edit.
When you are done, set “Render in High Precision YUV”.
Export.
That’s all. -

You mean to say that -when FCP asks to change sequence settings to match clip settings- click ‘yes’?
I ask this because I usually already have selected the Easy Setup for EX. Just want to make sure you don’t mean anything else by ‘conform to EX’.

March 2, 2010 at 10:00 pmI have shot on EX3 with 1080 progressive. I have finished editing in the in FCP 7 using native XD Cam settings and now I need to give SD output to my client on mini DV.
any clue how would I convert HD to SD using a DV deck?
I can convert if I export as a quick time movie but I want this print to tape SD.
Thanks
