The dealer wants to know if a red render bar appears above the stills on the timeline, but still seems to preview in realtime without rendering.
And, to confirm, you ARE using PPro CS3 with no cards like a Matrox product, right?
And my final question… Is your Premiere Pro CS3 part of the suite (including AE, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.) or was it installed as the standalone product?

YES!!! As I mentioned before, All Tests were done without rendering, in a NTSC SD session, 48K audio

That is correct…. No Capture cards. (I do use a DV Transverter, but it was not powered up at the time)And my final question… Is your Premiere Pro CS3 part of the suite (including AE, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.) or was it installed as the standalone product?
It was part of a Suite, but that shouldn’t be an issue.Looking for 1939 Indian Motocycle

Thanks for the data. After talking with my dealer, we’ve concluded that the use of a Matrox codec in the project, causes Premiere to drop significant frames when trying to do a move and/or scale on an image of any size, even when NOT using the Matrox functions. To work around this, I must create a purely non-Matrox project and use Adobe’s functions only. To experience the transcoding benefits in speed offered by the Matrox RT.X2 card, I must output my project to an AVI, then transcode using the Matrox media encoding… this is a major disappointment to me.
I have just gotten the workstation back. I’ll run the benchmark and post the results as soon as possible… it may be a day or two.
Thanks to all for getting me this far. I appreciate all the suggestions and am keeping them on file!

January 30, 2008 at 7:48 pmHate to say it, but Matrox has been a disapointment for many people and for many years. That’s not to say that they don’t make a good product, but they seem to drop support for the current version everytime a new release of Premiere comes out (I think Harm said it best, they make great door stops.)
Might be a good time to look a BlackMagic or even AJA.

Actually, I did. My understanding was that they simply provided uncompressed i/o benefits rather than actual acceleration… thus, I opted for what appeared to be the only game in Adobe’s town.
I come from a past filled with Fast’s DVMaster (the renowned “bleeding edge”), then Canopus’ DVStorm… until Canopus and Adobe “divorced”. I long for a DVStorm (and the Canopus codec), but using Premiere rather than Edius.

January 30, 2008 at 11:18 pmIn my opinion Premiere Pro works good enough with a mere 2.66 GHZ Core 2 Dual fro DV-25 adn DV-50. You get a good RT preview and then you render it out. I know the Matrox card does not have to render back to DV-25 tape but it does not take all that long to render. The AJA or Black Magic cards might give you a slight boost because it does have hardware to help read the DV codecs.
I used to use a Canopus DV Storm with Premiere 6.0. The suport was not bad but with the new Premire Pro and a Core 2 Dual I don’t miss it. I can lay down uncompressed with DV-25 and it works great. I can even do PIPs with the RT preview mode set to highest quality. I admit the DV Storm would out put to DV in RT rather than just give a good RT preview.

January 31, 2008 at 12:08 amThe 8 core advantage comes in play with HD, especially if you are sending things to either DVD or Bluray. You are talking about saving hours in encoding time. And if you happen to own a 3D app like Cinema 4D, it’s heaven…

January 31, 2008 at 9:34 amI am hip to 3D animation. While Premiere Pro may look almost as good in RT preview mode as it does rendered that is not the case for 3D animation. 3D animation must render in order to get the light through transparency and soft shadows to look 100% real. Realtime Open GL is only so good.
