Premier Pro slow performance
Posted by Mary Gerber on October 22, 2024 at 2:11 pmHi all,
After searching the forum I still need to ask this question. Every time I upgrade to V24 the performance is drastically slow so I downgrade back to V23 which works fine. Does anyone else have this issue? if so what are workarounds.
Also, maybe related, I cannot get motion graphics to load.
Lastly, does anyone have recommendations on Premier Pro training classes? The latest thread I found was from 2016. I thought there might be some new resources by now.
Thank you all!

October 22, 2024 at 2:37 pmHey Mary,
Sorry to say this, but I have cancelled my Adobe subscription for several reasons, but on the last PPro 2024 job I had to transcode (on PC) all of the Sony FX6 rushes to ProRes. Because on opening project, no matter where I clicked the mouse, it would crash straight out to Windows.
Once the files was transcoded, it did not crash anymore. But managed to off-load my thoughts on PPro,I made a running commentary on Twitter.
https://x.com/madsvid/status/1831668193632358631It actually felt good.
And, now I have, after a 25-year relationship, terminated my Adobe subscription.
Partly that they are still selling the 100GB Cloud storage, that no longer works for freelancers and SMEs.
And, although many are excited about Firefly, they have yet to understand that Adobe will charge for both subscription and separately “Pay-as-You-Go-A.I.”.Where to next for me?
I’ve already got Davinci Studio for grading + just an hour ago, received the code for my first ever Avid MediaComposer 3-year licence (Ultimate version).
If Adobe wises up, I might be back, but think unlikely unless they change out their management. If PPro works for you on v2023, do stay on 23.
For courses, LinkedIN learning is a really good place to start.
I have both the printed and digital version of “The Cool Stuff in Premiere Pro”.
It is a bit old (2017), but still loads of good information.
If near London, you are more than welcome to have my printed copy.
1 cup of coffee is all that I ask.

October 22, 2024 at 2:39 pmHello Mary!
I generally advise my students and fellow editors to hold off on upgrading to the latest version of software right away. It’s quite common in the software industry for new releases to come with bugs that can affect performance, just like you’ve experienced with Premiere Pro V24. It’s better to wait until those issues have been addressed in a stable version. Downgrading, like you’re doing, is often a smart move until you hear that a version is bug-free.
Regarding your issue with motion graphics not loading, it might be linked to the slow performance or incompatibilities with your system. Double-check that your system meets the required specs for V24, and ensure that any plug-ins or templates you are using are compatible with the new version. You could also try clearing the cache, which might help.
As for training, if you’re interested, I offer personalized Premiere Pro classes! I am a certified instructor and have taught professionals from corporate to government institutions worldwide. If you’re looking for tailored training, feel free to reach out to me at ivan@premieretraining.com.ec
Hope this helps, and good luck with your projects!
Best,
Ivan Eldredge G.

October 22, 2024 at 3:20 pmregarding training, a few years ago I took Ashley Kennedy’s on-line class which is part of Linked-in Learning – I highly recommend it.

October 22, 2024 at 3:51 pmThank you for the quick reply. Before I reach out for team pricing, do you recall what you paid? I’m working on my 2025 budget.

October 22, 2024 at 3:52 pmThank you Ivan.
I am looking for training for myself and one other editor. Do you offer on-line courses? If so, what is your pricing structure. I am working on my 2025 budget today.

October 22, 2024 at 3:56 pmI am not surprised that you’ve moved on. I started out with Final cut, moved to MC, then to Premier Pro. I started Davinci but was not patient enough to learn how to color correct with nodes.
Because I work for a company Premier Pro is their corporate editing software of choice right now until I can branch off but that’s not likely going to happen for a while.
I’m not near London but if I ever do…

October 22, 2024 at 4:02 pmYes, but once that company get hooked on what is “Candy Crush” for creatives in form of the Pay-as-You-Go-A.I., they’ll soon see the light.
Hoping that Adobe will too…
But, have you got yourself an Adobe PPro keyboard? (LogicKeyboards are the best. It doubles as something that is sturdy enough to rob a bank with). If any of your colleagues venture through London (I’m next to Liverpool Street Station), they are more than welcome to pick up the book for you.

October 22, 2024 at 6:43 pmHi Mary,
Your situation is why I left Adobe and moved onto DaVinci Resolve/Fusion. I posted numerous threads on the Adobe forums regarding performance issues after an “upgrade” and the standard response was:
1. Delete Preference file
2. Delete all temporary cached/proxy files
3. Validate correct audio driver
4. Disable GPU acceleration
5. Check GPU drivers are current and “Studio” version (if applicable, nVidia)
6. On Windows PC check System Information under Multimedia Audio Codec and Video Codec
7. Use Codec Tweak Tool (freeware) to check for broken or old Codec
It’s a frustrating experience to do this every time Adobe version update. Sadly the ONLY option above that worked was to use proxies … if you do color grading this isn’t really a good option … hence my departure to DaVinci Resolve which has a far superior color grading process as the nodes are much more flexible than Adobe “layers”.
Best of luck, Rob.
