August 17, 2009 at 3:26 pm[Rafael Amador] “Make sure that all the corners of all the layer have some color information.
If there is any fully transparent corner, pint [paint?] few pixels.”But I’m not going to paint a few pixels in an area that is supposed to be transparent, and then mask those pixels in FCP. Plus, I tried that and it didn’t work. Plus, all of the other layers in the same PSD file worked fine even though they have the same transparent top portion. Plus, PNG-24 has always worked for me in the past regardless of transparent corners.
I think I have to just let this one go… Random glitch.

Don’t need to mask them, just crop them.
This is the only way to avoid the layers resizing.

Thanks Rafael, but I have to say again: it’s not a problem with the other (very similar) layers in the same PSD, nor with any other graphics I’ve done.
Edit: I should add that resizing is not the issue here anyway. Please refer to the screenshots I posted earlier.

August 17, 2009 at 4:38 pmWhen the two corners of a side of any layer are transparent, FC resize/recenter the layer.
I thought this was the issue.

August 4, 2010 at 9:08 pmI am having a very similar issue in FCP7 right now. I have a .png created in Photoshop (which I do ALL the time) and, no matter what I do, FCP brings this file in with the transparent portion filled in with white.
I have been doing this for months and none of my settings have changed, but for some reason this one file just won’t work.
I have tried it on two different machines with no luck – the same problem on both. To make matters even stranger, when this file is reopened in CS4 Photoshop, it appears as it should.
What causes a transparent area in a .png to not be transparent in FCP7?

January 12, 2011 at 2:19 amI have been having the EXACT SAME issues. For years I have used PNGs with no problem in FCP and Motion. Now all of a sudden PNGs work only in FCP 7 but not in Motion 4 and TIFFs with transparency only work in Motion 4 and not in FCP 7! Running FCP 7.0.3
There seems to be no answer anywhere online regarding this issue only people saying change out you work or do some crazy saving thing to make it work. There is nothing weird here except that it has stopped working. I have also noticed that now I cannot save QT Movie with PNG transparency out of Final Cut, have always done it, now all of a sudden no transparency. Apple must have a glitch with QT or FCP or both….
Anyone have any solutions? Other than save some weird file type or change your work flow?
Thanks!

February 22, 2011 at 7:39 pmI’m having the same issue. I’ve used PNGs for years now with no problems, and recently I’ve noticed that when saving as a png from Photoshop (cs5) and importing into Final Cut (7.0.3), the areas that should be completely transparent are now seen as solid white. If I open them in After effects, or even looking at them in quick view mode on my mac, you can clearly see the transparency as it should be, but Final Cut seems to be having trouble seeing it.
So I am bumping this with hopes that someone has figured out a solution.

February 4, 2013 at 9:44 pmDid anyone figure this out? I am running into the same problem. Recently switched to FCP7 and all the sudden all my PNGs come into the timeline with white BGs instead of transparent.
I am baffled.
Thanks in advance.
