Yes, you are right. However you do not need to recapture the audio, it won’t be better quality.

So make the copy of the sequence, delete ALL audio tracks, then follow the rest of you plan. When done recapturing, cut the audio back in from the original sequence.

This will save time in the recapture as having even a one frame difference between your audio and video edit in the timeline will cause Avid to create two clips to capture. Don’t waste the time.

    Hey there

thanks for the feedback — but sorry I don’t understand that part

because when I recapture each scene to 1:1 wont the audio be at the best quality as well ?

so what yo uare sayign when i duplicate the original final edit —

i have to delete all the audio tracks including the music and original audio

and then when capturing to 1:1 — i only capture the video no need to capture the audio so i keep the A logo off

when the clips are captured to 1:1 then I have to manually put the audio back in

please let me know as soon as possible

    Thanks

The 1:1 is the quality of the video only. Audio quality you change by sampling at a lower rate like 44.1. No one should be capturing lower quality audio as the storage savings would be negligible.

So, don’t bother recapturing the audio, you already have the highest quality audio in the system.

    Cool

    Two more question —

the effects that I applied on the 10:1 footage

when I recapture the clips to 1:1 do I need to apply the effects again or will they be there already?

    and

When capturing the clips from each tape —- Do I need to rewind each tape to the beginning or will the Digi machine do that automatically?

    Please let me know

    Regards,

    Dan

[Dan Newton] “when I recapture the clips to 1:1 do I need to apply the effects again or will they be there already? “

Everything will be there, but you will have to re-render any non RT effects as Avid must recreate them in high resolution.

The Avid will rewind to the first clip automatically.

    Hey

Thanks for all the help — so basically — everything will be there — I just need to re render the updated timeline so everything will be in place?

But one question — why do I need to put in the audio again — its very time consuming — can’t I just leave it the way it is — does it effect the 1:1 ?

    Let me know

The audio is captured at it’s highest quality, so recapturing it just takes up more space on your hard drive and may result in you capturing more than you need to.

Replacing the audio should be about a 15 second step at most. Recaptured your decomposed sequence at 1:1. Open it to make sure all the video is online.

Now drag your original sequence (which still has the audio) into your source monitor. Mark in In at the beginning, Out at the End, then patch just the audio tracks (deselect all video tracks on the source side)and hit V. This will cut all your audio from your original sequence into your decomposed sequence. Done!

Cool man — thank you so much

so basically once the audio is in place and I do the final render on the whole edit — Voila —- I have my full edit

Cool I am going to try this — will let you know if it works —

Question once this goes well — as this is a offline edit —- i may need to online the edit to another studio to color grade it — in which they will send back to me

what is the best way of getting them the offline edit — can I just put the finalised edit on a digi beta?

when I get back I will then add subtitles — or should I add subtitles before i give them the offline edit?

    Please Advise —–

    Thanks,
