    Try these things:
    •Follow these instructions: https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/kb/playback-stops-loops-soundbooth-premiere.html

If that doesn’t work, try the following:
•Import the footage via the Media Browser, not File > Import
•Drag n drop a clip to the New Item button to ensure you have the proper sequence settings.
•As was suggested, drop playback res to 1/2 or 1/4
•Try to play your clips from a different drive, not the T-bolt one.

I finally figured this problem out for me – i started getting the problem after upgrading to mavericks on a 2011 macbook pro i7

in the sequence settings “Composite in Linear Colour” was ticked – unless you have GPU acceleration, its noting going to play black properly.

    Unticked and it worked.

    Thank god.
