I obviously have nothing to compare it to as i don’t know Mari, but the MacPro looked like it was handling those vast amounts of data with ease.
The Pixar artist said it was the fastest he had seen Mari running, and this is on a port from Linux they started 6 weeks ago!

The new Mac Pro offers great hardware for this. Fast powerful GPUs with loads of VRAM, and fast flash mass storage. Moving data on and off the cards and “disk” should be super fast, and manipulating the 3D models via OpenGL on workstation-class GPUs should be smooth.
You could configure a Linux or Windows workstation similarly, but the Mac Pro will be ideal for this out of the box.

I’m not sure if that was a hardware demo, so much as a really cool demo for Mari.
The size of the new MacPro is absolutely shocking.
They are going to sell boatloads of JetPacPros.

You’re going to be wanting to process A on one device while you’re doing B on a second.
Where A = Decoding/compositing/rendering etc etc
and B = Displaying/running fancy GUI animations – scopes etc/playing the timeline/encoding/exporting etc etc
And with the CPU there are three+ devices.
Seems like a whole lot of that goes on in editing or running Motion 😉 -

Seems like a whole lot of that goes on in editing or running Motion ;-)”What MARI is doing with the hardware is technically quite different than what FCPX/M5 does — but the point about distributing tasks over multiple CPU cores and GPUs stands.
The entire industry has been moving to multiple CPU cores and even multiple GPUs for years, and Apple has been playing catch-up here for a while — but credit where it is due. In typical Apple style, they’re making a bit of a leap-frog jump and re-defining the platform by shipping multiple GPUs, standard. This is a big deal.
