[cosmo jarvis] “The sequence settings are set to 44.1 because all my externally recorded audio was recorded that way, so i figured it’d be easier to change that than convert all my audio to 48Khz. “

    Not good Cosmo!

FCP operates natively using 48khz audio, and you should get out of the mindset that converting properly to 48khz is a burden.

You can set iTunes to automatically convert all of the 44.1khz audio files you import to 48khz.

Thank you very much for your reply,
    I have some further questions:

If I do convert all my 44.1 files to 48 after I have completed my cut, can I then reconnect the 44.1 versions of the files with the 48Khz versions?

Also, will the fact that the footage was captured with 48Khz audio make a difference to the relationship between the separately recorded 44.1 audio and the footage (if the 44.1 audio is removed from the sequence)?

I am so damn confused. Why does FCP give the option to work in 44.1 then?

In our case there was no sample rate or bit rate mismatch, so the only solution we could find was trashing the caches, including the Thumbnail Cache, which I don’t think I included on my list above.
