March 8, 2018 at 2:07 pmHere is an Instagram post of the EVA1.
Today we will finally do some recording.
Workload got in the way but at least my co-shooter got some time in to work the EVA1 with a Helix Jr.
My day job has us working on the older RED ONE.
I love that camera but nowhere near as agile as my RED Scarlet.
The only reason I mentioned replacing was that the RED ONE was being utilized for almost everything and it was a bit overkill for training videos and simple run and gun.
We will know soon enough if the RED ONE will be stored away.
For myself personally, my RED Scarlet will never be sold and one day will help me my own personal projects.
It goes out for rental time to time but not as much of late due to all the newer cheaper options out there. -

March 13, 2018 at 3:19 pmI had to hand off the testing to my colleagues.
So far so good as far as the basics go.
They are having fun with the User settings and have stuck to shooting 4K DCI.
We received the Panasonic SDXC 128GB but haven’t really shot anything worthwhile.
The Zacuto Gratical MicroEye OLEDs also dropped and I’m hoping to give those my eyeballs ☺
They look (too) amazing in Rec709. We had to dial back to LOG since it made everything look vivid.
They will not be using the Sony XDCAMs for any future projects.
The EVA1 has completely replaced them.I really need to get on one soon 🙂

April 10, 2018 at 3:23 pmI am looking at the EV-1.
Currently I have the Pan HPX250 and what I like are the 4-channels of audio (the on-camera mikes into channels 3 and 4 have saved my audio numerous times) and the 24mm-equivalent lens. I don’t like the weight as it’s so hard to handhold. Didn’t think 6 lbs was this heavy….
I have looked at the EV-1 manual and it appears that there are only 2 audio channels. This means I’ll have to get a field recorder to use on my gigs. I also can’t get any info about wide zooms for EF mounts.
SO, In addition to reviews of this camera, I’d like to get some feedback on what people do for field sound. There is a ZOOM mixer at not too much money. Anyone using this and if not, what’s the solution?
And, what wide EF zoom are people using?
Many thanks, Bill

For us, two channels are fine for training and corporate shoots.
Personally, I would use an external mixer/recorder with this camera.
For my personal setup (RED Scarlet), I have an SD744T.
As far as wide, I’ve only have a Tokina 11-16mm but haven’t tried it yet.
Using mostly Canon glass. -

September 10, 2018 at 6:33 pmThanks, Eric. I ended up going with an external recorder. Got a Zoom F8 which is light and small enuf to attach to the side of the tripod. It has nice pass-thru features and enables me to capture booth sound and house sound as separate tracks. Since I video a *Lot* of dance, it allows me to capture foot and spoken sounds from the stage while not giving up the “good” board sound.
Still thinking about a 4k camera. I noticed the post elsewhere here about zoom lenses. I guess in a year, there will be a really good EVA-1 rig. Waiting….

September 12, 2018 at 1:35 pmAll good.
We’ve had the two EVA-1s for a little over 6 months and they are bang on for what we shoot here.
I have the pleasure of working with that as well as a slew of REDs (I own a Scarlet for freelance) and they match well.
The EVA-1 is m fave run n gun and works great with a Helix Jr.
Maybe one day I’ll get to use it on a short or something not so corporate.Have fun in Raleigh N.C. I hear its nice there 🙂

September 12, 2018 at 2:27 pmThanks for the update. It is really appreciated as well as reading some other posts about the Panasonic EV1.
The biggest complaint I have found so far is the on camera monitor…Raleigh has lovely weather most of the time…seems a bit of rain is coming our way
Thanks

September 12, 2018 at 3:22 pmI avoid that monitor.
It’s small and handy but nowhere near as useful as a Small HD DP4 or higher.
We use the Gratical OLED most of the time. Will you be getting snow? That’s what we have to deal with coming fall 🙂

September 12, 2018 at 4:09 pmTo warm for snow….just a lot of rain. I’m 3 hrs from the coast, so it will be more like a rain storm..
It’s the flooding that will be an issue, of course electric will probably go out. We have a generator.
Hunker down, get a lot of reading inThanks for the info on monitor…
