  • PAL HD in FCHD?

Posted by Merete on April 13, 2005 at 12:51 pm

I’m currently trying out a Sony HVR-Z1E but can’t find out how to digitize in HD 1080/50i, just HD 1080/60i. How is this supposed to be done? The project is of course in PAL, and the camera is set to deliver HD. What shall the settings be in the project elsewise?
    Sincerely, Merete (Norway)

FCP does not support HDV. You might try HDVxDV or LumiereHD.

I have Final Cut Pro 4.5 HD which shall support HDV.

Final Cut Pro HD 4.5 does NOT support HDV material. It is MPEG-2 and FCP does NOT support the MPEG-2 format within the application. FCP HD will never work with HDV material without support from third parties.

There’s a presumption. Perhaps Apple can’t make it work in real-time, or can’t make real-time video display, or perhaps they can’t handle the timecode properly, and will decide to throw its hat in with Panasonic and Sony true HD formats and leave HDV for third party and consumer products. Panasonic is not in the HDV consortium, and is heavily touting its DVCPRO HD format in a small format camera as the best course for professionals on a tight budget.

Ooooo no wonder I couldn’t figure out how to do it then..
Any idea when v5 comes? We’re on a very tight budget here (very as in extremely) so I’ll better wait and see what it has before I buy any third-party app.

Watch the news sites all next week. The NAB convention starts this weekend and runs through next week. Lots of people think FCP5 will show up there. Even if it doesn’t, there will be lots of new things from Apple I’m sure.

This is a good Mac news site:
    https://www.macobserver.com

They focuses on news as opposed to rumors. If it shows up there it’s something that’s already happened, not something that might happen.

Of course, checking Apple.com next week will also fill you in on what’s happening.

I have a hat I will be eating if FCP 5 has no HDV support.
