May 23, 2006 at 1:18 pm[Shane Ross] “Don’t use the AJA codecs. Just choose DVCPRO HD 720p60 or 720p24…whatever format the footage was shot in.”
Nope Shane– needs to use the AJA easy set up to play the video out on the display.
I’m with Jeremy – the poster did not create a new seq.

May 23, 2006 at 3:27 pmFirst of all, I appreciate all the feedback on this problem, this is a great forum for discussion and I am glad it is out there. Here is what I have tried; 1) Easy setup DVCPro HD 60p and made a new sequence, dropped in the footage – redline for render 2) AJA Kona2 720p 59.24 DVCPro HD, made a new sequence, dropped in footage – redline for render 3) AJA Kona2 720p 23.98 DVDCPro HD VAricam, new sequence, dropped in footage – redline for render. I went to AJA and updated the drivers already, and as you can see, I have created a new sequence every time. I do know that much, so it is something else. Could there be a setting in the Kona control card? Man, this is killing me! Even the IT computer master at our shop can’t figure this out. If you are tired of this problem and do not respond, I understand completely. Thanks again, Luke

May 23, 2006 at 3:45 pmOkay, this means that your footage is not any of those formats. you have imported it into FCP, correct? How did you do this? in your browser, scroll to the right an tell me the frame size, compressor and frame rate of any one of those movies. Was this shot on an HVX200?

May 23, 2006 at 4:10 pmI finally got it to work. I needed to go into the sequence settings and change the editing timebase to 29.97. You can only do this while the sequence is empty so I couldn’t mess with it before. In terms of the downconvert, I also needed to go to the apple system settings and change the monitor display resolution to 720 – which updated the buffer in the kona control panel and allowed me to send out a 525SDI signal to a digibeta and NTSC monitor…the downconvert that Jeremy referred to. Thanks for all the feedback everybody, one more mystery solved with the help of the Cow.

May 23, 2006 at 4:18 pmFor future reference that means your footage is shot 30p. Make sure that your field settings in the sequence are set to none. I take it you are using the extended desktop on your NTSC monitor? You need to open the Kona control panel, select your secondary output as 525i and click either the SDI out 1 or 2 or analog component (whichever is feeding your Digibeta). Then, choose the secondary output and you should see a little downconvert tab come up on the corresponding output line (SDI 1,2 or analog) of the control panel. Your footage will now downconvert with the choice of letterbox, anamorphic, or crop.
Glad you found it and post back with more questions.
Jeremy
